Buenos Aires, Argentina – Tango Show
There are few things as Argentine as the tango - the sensual dance heavily associated with the country. Ashley and I saw it being performed several times in the streets of Buenos Aires (most notably at the Plaza Dorrego Flea Market), but wanted to take in a show in order to gain more exposure to the dance. After some research, we settled on a tango lesson and dinner show at Complejo Tango. The lesson portion of the evening took some convincing to get me to agree to, but I quite enjoyed it, even with the class being very crowded. After the class, everyone was escorted into the dinner area/showroom for a pretty mediocre meal, but a thoroughly entertaining performance. Singers and dancers guided the audience through the history and evolution of tango, from its beginnings in the rough streets of poor neighborhoods to its polished and powerful modern day interpretation.
