Mendoza Argentina – Wine Tasting in Luján de Cuyo

Argentina is famous for many things: obscenely huge steaks of grass-fed beef, gauchos, near obsessive mate drinking, and, of course, wine! The country is the fifth largest producer of wine in the world, with the Mendoza region producing nearly two-thirds of that. In my mind, this made a wine tasting tour obligatory, so we hooked up with Ampora Wine Tours for an unforgettable and educational day. The tour took place in in Luján de Cuyo and included stops at four different bodegas, a tasting of a total of 17 wines (thank God we were bussed around), and a five course lunch with wine pairing. Reds, whites and rosés were all on the menu, and the bodegas broke out some of their better bottles for our tasting pleasure.
